Russian Blue Buyers Guide

Be cautious purchasing a Russian Blue kitten! There are A LOT of scams, especially on social media. Every week I speak to at least one person who has been scammed out of $500-$1,000.

"If something seems too good to be true, it usually is".

Any legitimate cattery owner will tell you breeding Russian Blues requires a substantial investment in time, money, & love. With these factors in mind, most legitimate catteries know what their kittens are worth & price them accordingly. 

Regardless of whom you purchase your Russian Blue kitten from here are some useful tips to help avoid being scammed: 

• Never pay with a money order or Western Union

• Don't trust a pushy seller

• If a site has kittens "available" should be a red flag. Most breeders work off a waiting list due to their high demand.

• Schedule a time for a Zoom or FaceTime session with the seller so you can see the kittens and parents. 

• Ask for the breeders registered cattery name & registration number 

• NEVER send any money before a Sales Contact is signed! 

• Do not rely on emails and text alone... pick up the phone.

• Ask the breeder to send a picture of a cat with a common household item (i.e., spoon or remote). Scammers don't actually have any cats.

• Another rule of thumb, if the breeder says they are a certified cattery through TICA, they would NEVER sell a kitten/cat that has not been spayed or neutered, or require proof of surgery before sending registration documents.
